American Hubris re Canadian management of the Canadian economy
There are conservative republican white men who to this late beleaguered day, are enthusiastic Bush-Cheney-Delay loyalists, and despise those who criticize and oppose Bush-Cheney-Delay. Seems mainstream opinion amongst them in the year 2005 is as follows:
"Lowly Canada is cornsiderin' income an' capital gains tax cuts t'grow their li'l economah an' redooce unemployment. They now reckanize tax cuts stimulate th' economah. Canadian social programs teach varmints t'do nothin'. Canadian tax cuts will redooce unemployment. Th' Canadians is wise t'imitate th' USA super-race which has had lower unemployment than Canada through tax cuts."
These hubristic conservative republicans, are proud of how the unemployment rate in the USA is 5.5 percent whereas in Canada it is 7 percent. But they ignore how the USA per capita balance of trade is negative $2200 whereas the Canadian per capita balance of trade is positive $848. They ignore how this has been going on now for decades, big Canadian trade surpluses, huge USA trade deficits. They ignore how Canada's foreign debt per capita is 84 cents whereas in the USA the foreign debt per capita is at least $10,000 and climbing by about $1000 each year. They ignore how foreign share of investment in the USA at last count was 16.9% and rising fast while the foreign share of investment in Canada was only 3.7%, which is significant because Canada has economically kicked the USA's ass even though the USA has enjoyed the advantage of more foreign investment which however in the long run will have to be paid back on. They the proud conservative republicans have ignored how the top 10% in the USA have 31% of total national income whereas the top 10% in Canada have only 23% of the total national income.
There are certain possibilities that conservatives in their rush to cut taxes ignore. When workers have time energy and money they are better able to improve themselves through the acquisition of skills. If a society is not leaking money workers spending money will simply rev up the economy the workers are in as the money circulates from person to person in the economy, and when workers have time energy and money they are more productive per hour, which means the society has more time to put into productive activities other than working for a salary on the job.
When too much money is left in the hands of the conservative republican class, scientifically speaking the apparent result which may be hard to face, is that they end up spending too much of it on imports. On the other hand the lower classes tend to spend more of their money domestically. The conservative republicans it seems, tends to use the power obtained from taxes cuts to promote a culture that is econo-nationally speaking irresponsible.
When employers have to worry about providing medical care to workers, they will end up discriminating against workers simply because they are older than other workers. But when health insurance for workers is covered by the government, employers can concentrate on hiring the persons who regardless of age are the best so to speak players available at a position. If an economy is not leaking the fact older workers spend more on health care will not harm the economy since the health sector that gets the money will invest and spend the money so it will continue to circulate in the economy. The laws of specialization of labor and the law of economy of scale are in favor of one large scale national health provider as opposed to do-it-yourself for every company. One respected authority I forget who it was, has stated that large private sector corporations are not more efficient than public sector government organizations.
Canadian national economic success should lead the USA to question how much it is damaging itself by suppressing talent due to age discrimination and due to a national refusal to value any criteria that significant minority ethnic or racial groups fare poorly in.
