Poems--turning them into something closer to music

I have written some Poetic Prayers; the lines rhyme, they are 12-16 syllables in length, I know these poems sound good if they are simply read out loud.

I was thinking of the various levels of art you might achieve with them. Simply reading them out loud is art. They are poems in which the rhyming lines are kept in a certain range of length in terms of number syllables, I think if they are simply read out loud at a fairly fast clip they sound good.

My guess is that to develop them to a more complex level of art you would do the following things in order:

1 The poem is read out loud, at a fast clip, but not sung
2 Drums are added to accompany the reader
3 electric bass guitar is added to 1 and 2
4 The reader of the poem, is allowed to add a little melody to the reading
5 When further addition of melody makes things worse the addition of melody to the reading of the poem ceases.
6 other instruments are added to the track so long as such adds do not make things worse.
