I have seen World Cuppers in Cole's position, rush into passing the ball as if it was a hot potato to be quickly gotten rid of, doing a job that is worse than the job a good high school winger would do, as if the only thing important was being blameless in the eyes of the simple minded. But Cole acted as if the important thing was scoring, not being blameless, he took his time, and carefully aimed it at the open guy. This is very basic, carefully aiming at the open team-mate, yet time after time I have seen World Cuppers, for all their skills, pass too quickly, ignore the open man, miss by several yards on a pass to someone 20-25 yards away, even when they have plenty of time when they get the ball.
89:45 Sweden scores to tie game at 2-2, incredible, when everyone thought game was over...this was a keytstone cops play, just unbelievable...ball was thrown in, bouncing to about chest high several times, several English and Swedish players completely missed it, it bounced into the English goal, strangest thing I have ever seen, it reminds me, that I have noted from the beginning of this World Cup, how players are clumsy with the bouncing balls that can be exploited so effectively for offensive purposes by players who are not clumsy with such. This play shows how bouncing balls can also be deadly when defenders cannot handle them. Which is related to my idea, see post of yesterday, of a defender who plays an important offensive role.
