world cup soccer day 4 notes

Australia defeated Japan 3-1; Czecoslovakia beat the USA 3-0; Italy defeated Ghana. I saw the video highlights of the games at FIFA/Yahoo; all I saw of Australia was these highlights, but I saw part of the USA and Italy games.

1 All the aspects in which these world cuppers excel me, are aspects in which the primary reason they excel, is that they are in a better position to practice the skills involved; they have machines and assistants to help them practice shielding the ball from the defender--as for me, I concentrated on dribbling by defenders a long time ago, and forgot about this aspect--I am not in a good position to practice it.

Likewise I am not in a good position to practice the trapping long air balls, heading and kicking crosses into the goal, playing defense. But you might unfortunately be amazed at how much a dozen hours of high intensity practice in a particular specialized aspect of soccer/football can pay off for one such as myself.

2 USA vs CZE, we saw lots of lame crosses, lame shots, lame passes.

3 USA vs CZE, plenty of points in the game where if I was touching the ball I would have had a chance to initiate an attempt to dribble the ball past a defender keeping the ball on the ground or getting it into the air.

4 USA vs CZE, they--don't remember to which extent this was USA or CZE--looked like they just want to please some dumbf___, they are worrying about what some dumbf___ will say when commenting on the game. For example, they pass the ball to some poor guy who is on their team, they figure such a pass will not make them look bad in the eyes of the dumbf---s, but the point is, their pass puts the team-mate getting the ball in an impossibly difficult situation. The observing dumbf---s, will however not notice how the pass put the team-mate in an impossible situation, rather his simple brain will simply register that no mistake was made.

5 They should control the ball for at least a fraction of a second or a jaunt of a yard before passing or shooting. This again evident today. Yet today what was apparent was that when they should move a yard or two at least while air-dribbling the ball, this they will not or cannot do.

6 Today what we saw in the Australia USA and Italy games, was lots of these goals that were due to the simple random nature of positionings that occur in games. Average amateur players, had they been in the positions world cuppers found themselves in today, would likewise have scored the easy goals. The simple scientific statistical nature of it all, is that a certain percentage of goals are simply scored by the player being lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, while at the same time the opposing players are unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

7 Ghana vs Italy: The Ghanaians can't shoot. They look so competent out there in their white uniforms, then they flub up shots. Their shots go straight at the goalie or miss the goal entirely by a substantial amount. Similarly, they flub up medium length and long length passes. The players especially the Ghaniaians try so hard to please the morons amongst the onlookers, that they fire off these medium length and long length passes that simply put the team-mates getting the passes in an embarrassing situation.

8 Watching the games today you get the feeling, that the world cuppers play as if it there is something especially socially acceptable about: a pass or a shot that misses its target by several yards; a pass that puts the team=mate recipient in an awkward situation. They play as if getting the ball almost to where it is supposed to go was some kind of success. The saying in wild industrial midwest used to go, "almost is only good enough, in horseshoes and hand-grenades".
