World Cup Day 7

England 2 Trinidad 0

1st half

Missed first 24 minutes they did not record on to my computer for some reason.

Note: When I say for example minute 24, this means the 25th minute of play, 24 is the number of minutes showing on the time clock.

1 field looks smooth, dry, perfect for ground and air dribbling

2 hard England shot from 20 right at goalie, bouncng rebounder missed,

3 England's Crouch got a bouncer he sort of trapped to the goalie who got it

4 At 24 minutes man at right fullback position for England sent a one bounce ball ahead of Owen, the ball Owen got was the exact type I handle all the time in drills while air dribbling at a sprint, except easier because it ws on the bounce. Owen approached the ball lazily, sleepily, just as the Mexicaner had in their game vs Iran. I approach the kind of ball Owen slowed down for, aggressively, full speed, fast as possible, and I continue the flight as opposed to the easier passing and shooting. But that mexikaner was a wizard kicking with his back to the opponent with his heel, Owen is probably like that too, but let's face it, soccer is mostly a game of facing the opponent and moving forward against him.

Minute 26 (time shown on clock)

5 Sid Gray at 26 minutes passes ball directly to other team.

6 From 35 yds England right halfback, passed ball into Crouch who was 15 yds from goal, Crouch got a lame header off that went to the middle where two england guys were crowded out by three Trinidad defenders.

7 Then England's Gerrard, got a bouncing ball 30 yds directly in front of the goal, ball moving same direction as him in front of him, like what I do in drills but easier because the ball had bounced off the ground for him Gerrard. Gerrard chested the ball as I often do, after the chest volley he immediately shot it, shot did not score, that is the kind of situation where I continue the air dribble, which is more difficult than a bouncing ball, more difficult than shooting or passing. At least England is producing the kind of balls I like, they remind me of Germany which began producing the kinds of balls I like a day or so ago.

Minute 30

8 Gerrard got a ball line drived to his waist, he trapped it, 30 yds from Trinidad goal, situation was ripe for flight, aerial dribble attack, but he did not fly. The guy who passed it to Gerrard, was it seemed thoughtlessly selfish, it was too much of a rifle shot of a pass too hard to handle.

9 Crouch heads a ball coming at him, to spot in front of him, he's another excellent header like Klose of Germany. But these guys who head really well have certain weaknesses, like the guys who are good with their heels. I do'nt know exactly how good I'd be heading the ball in games but several years ago I mastered the ability to sprint 25 yds regularly keeping the ball up in the air ahead of me using only my head.

minute 33

10 Lampart of England took a shot from 30 yds missed wide, they said what a great shot, I thought maybe I would have done better initiating an offensive air or ground dribble in the situation Lampart found himself in.

minute 36

11 They say Beckham is a set-piece wizard, they also say Trinidad is out-set-piecing England.

12 Trinidad passes it into the head of Kenwin Jones, both teams love to pass to the head of the tall forward, it is not paying off for either team.

minute 40

13 The announcer is talking about how the service has not been there to help out Crouch. As if this was volleyball, featuring things called "service" or might that be tennis, maybe ping pong.

14 Joe Cole of England a does great job of trapping a line drive sent in his direction waist high. But I sell myself short. I do such things in drills, when air dribbling at a sprint, all the time, I reach out bring the ball and my body both to a halt while continuing the air dribbling etc.

minute 42

15 Beckham had plenty of space, sent accurate pass to Crouch, Crouch tried to kick it before it hit the ground, shot went wide. If Beckham was a God, the pass would have gone to Crouch's head. I realize that the announcers seem to wrongly think the only air game is the headed balls, balls that don't bounce before they get to the receiver. They seem wrong, but Crouch is a header type of guy.

minute 44

16 England defenders display twice great skill in volleying out air balls.

17 Ferdinand seemed to have time and space to get an air dribble going 35 yds from opposing Trinidad goal, but sent pass too long for team-mate sprinting in towards goal.

18 Cole of England sends in inaccurate pass to middle

19 Cole the White of England does thing where feet shoot forward past ball without touching it while approaching defender, but does not beat the man.

20 Crouch chases down corrals a ball, sends it to his team-mate, he dutifully executeth such humble errands.

Half Time Minute 45

21 Englishman trapped line drive ball well on right side 40 yds from goal, but then passed ball back to his fullback after grounding it.

22 England fullback traps long line drive well with chest

minute 48

23 Carragher, had ground ball in front of him tried to put ball to right of fullback body to left. It might have been better if he stopped with the ball and faced the fullback and went right at him as is my style. Such would freeze the fullback mid stride. As it was the fullback used his momentum racing back towards his own goal to intercept the ball.

24 The announcer complaineth re Crouch and the other forward not working together. But that is I think because of the way the midfielders and defenders are setting things up.

Minute 50

25 Announcer liked the way York of Trinidad dribbled ball forward up the middle for 20 yds and then lost it. That's my kind of announcer. But a couple of days ago he seemed like he was from some other planet, not my planet.

Minute 53

26 England's back heeled the ball forward to England forward, who crossed to Crouch on ground, Crouch flipped ball into air and missed shot...at least he flipped it up, thing is he shot it right away. The English are similar to Mexicans it seems, the heeling the ball forward...but that Mexikaner who was good at heeling the ball forward, was weak on forward air dribble.

Minute 56

27 The English defenders get a chance to put the ball in the air while in the other team's half, but they have no team-mates back near them to cover if something goes wrong on an aerial attack.

Minute 57

28 Crouch sent in a waist high ball to Owen, Owen reached his foot forward it bounced off his foot straight to the goalie, I handle those kinds of balls all the time in drills, stretching forward to use the top of my toe on balls going approx same direction as me, England reminds me of Germany the way it has begun producing situations of the type I like.

Minute 59

29 They say owen is quick strong fast. Looking at myself in the YMCA mirror I thought I looked wide and thick. And I'm fast. How heavy a person is is only part of it, a middle weight person with light bones, thin wrists and ankles could be pretty damned wide and thick. The wide and thick have certain advantages, able to use their body to get people out of the way. Plus I am 5 feeet ten inches tall.

Minute 61

30 Lampard of England tried to kick a volley from Beckham at the goal, missed by a mile, seemed using a thigh trap and then a little flight would have been better.

Minute 63

31 England midfielder sends ground pass 20 yds at angle into crowd of Trinidadarians, ball gets intercepted. He was 35 yds from Trinidad goal had time and space, a chance to get ball in the air mount aerial or ground dribbling attack.

32 Joe Cole races in, does move where right foot flashes forward and out missing the ball rolling along in front, same with left, end result ball stolen. These moves where the foot slices out and forward missing the ball look slick but the ball gets stolen.

Minute 65

33 Seems problem is England is too predictable, seems there are lots of Trinidad men wherever the English offense puts the ball. One thing about air dribbling it produces unpredictable results. So does a half decent attacking ground dribbling.

34 Beckham had chance to initiate air dribble 40 yds out, passed ball right into Trinidarian.

Minute 67

35 Some English guy sent fast low 20 yd pass straight ahead to Rooney, this put Rooney in too tough a spot, the passer should have tried to do more on his own before dumping the ball on poor Rooney, so that the field can be opened the defenders spread out.

Minute 70

36 Edwards of Trinidad got ball rolling to him with plenty of time, 25 yds out, shot ball right at opposing player, had time to initiate air or ground dribble attack.

37 Glenn of trinidad almost scored except for a sliding block of the shot by England. But those guys sliding cannot stop the air dribble.

38 England midfielder flicked a long high ball that came towards him backwards and to the side to team-mate effortlessly, impressive. The English excel at batting away balls that fly at them in the air, what would be better is if they cold sort of catch the ball and begin to fly with it. By fly I mean running along keeping the ball close to the body but off the ground.

39 Lennon of England said to have made great move going down right, what I saw was Trinidad defender making a foolish lunge at him which allowed him to get past.

Minute 74 on clock

40 They act as if every time Beckham kicks the ball, the ball curves like a planet in orbit; might that be an optical illusion? I remember reading how the curve ball in baseball was allegedly an optical illusion. I wonder what is happening when I play my style of the game, the ball backspinning ferociously as I continually lob it forward while moving forward with it keeping it off the ground.

Minute 82 England Scores

41 Beckham fired a long pass into Crouch, Crouched headed it in, Beckham made Crouch's job easy with a perfectly placed cross. Beckham did not fire the pass off the first time he touched the ball, it took a littke time to set up, like Kaka.

Minute 90 England Scores

42 Gerrard scores with rocket shot from 25 yds, cutting in from right to shoot with left. You'd be surprise what damage left footed guys can do cutting in from the right like that. left footed usually play on the left. But if you put them in the middle,

43 Johns for Trinidad heeled the ball into the goal, standing in front of the goal, off a pass towards him, impressive but offsides.

Sweden 1 Paraguay 0

I saw the highlights not the game

1 Swede fires ferocious shot from 25 yds straight in front but there was a great save by the goalie

2 Swede hits bouncer at 25 yds in middle misses wide

3 Swede heads ball lamely at goalie insead of initiating a short flight
which he had the chance to do.

minute 59

4 Swede gets ball on bounce 25 yds in front of Paraguay goal, kicks it to his right and 20 yds forward to point 5 yds in front of Paraguay goal, reaches it on bounce, but heroic defender gets back to boot ball away. This Swede did the kind of thing I do in drills, but each time he kicked it on the bounce, while I never let the ball touch the ground, and over 20 yards he touched the ball twice, And lost control. It is like ground dribbling, if the ball goes a long way between touches there is more chance of losing control. This Swede was like me he was close to a sprint as I am in air dribbling drills, but I move along touching the ball four or five or six times over that twenty yards while keeping it off the ground but under control, so I can throw in changes of direction to confound the heroic defenders. But this Swede is getting the idea.

Minute 80,

5 The Swede forward with his back to the Paraguay goal just four yds in front of it, got a bouncer and immediately tried to shoot it, it was a weak shot right at the goalie, seems if these guys were able to fly just two yds with the ball before unloading it such would make a significant difference.

6 Sweden finally scored to win, a forward got a cross, instead of volleying it into the goal as has been habitual for 2006 world cuppers, he headed it to a forward in the middle, who headed it in. Seems like humans evolving into Sapiens.
