Macho Elite Patriarchs Screwing Up Their Posterity

Looks like there exists in this world, an elite whose member individuals strongly emphasize the interests of their own selves as individuals and the interests of their own families. (Apparently:) These individuals from the elite strongly de-emphasize the interests of those outside of their own families. Their allegiance to the elite to which they belong is motivated out of an allegiance to the self and to their own families.

The leading individuals amongst the elite are often getting on in years and are all intelligent enough to know that there is a high probability that despite advances in medical technology, they will one day die.

Thus ultimately these individuals amongst the elite who pass on the bulk of their wealth to their posterity when they die, are when it comes to self-important conduct, ideologically grounded in service to their own posterity, service to the persons of the future who are their biological descendants.

Thus it becomes reasonable to ask, why do individuals amongst the elite do so many things that probably will end up damaging the quality of life of their posterity (by posterity I mean future biological descendants).

One would expect that a wise macho elite patriarch concerned for his grandchildren, would be wise enough to see that his grandchildren's lives will have not just a safety component and an economic component, but also psychological, social, and spiritual components.

How then is it that these "self-important" macho elite patriarchs, do things that will probably degrade the psychological, social, and spiritual quality of life for their kids, their grandkids, and their greatgrandkids?
